A Champion Is Crowned

The 15th of August ended up being another landmark day for Freerunning with the Barclaycard World Freerun Championships at Trafalgar Square, being an outstanding success. The lineup on the day consisted of 25 athletes and saw some great action in the qualifying rounds before 10 made it to the final round. The eventual top 3 ended up seeing Tim ‘Livewire’ Shieff (UK) crowned as the 2009 champion. Victor ‘Showtime’ Lopez (USA) and Jason Paul (Germany) placed 2nd and 3rd respectively. Important Ticket Information

With all 8000 tickets (wristbands) being snapped up and demand for more increasing by the day, we have to stress that there are no longer any available for the Barclaycard World Championships on the 15th. For all those who were notified by email that theirs were being sent in the post, please read the information below for clarity about postal delays and how to collect tickets from the venue on the day. Click ‘read more’ to see….Due to the forthcoming planned postal strike there is a small chance that your tickets (wristbands) to the Barclaycard World Freerun Championships may not reach your preferred postal address in time. As this event is sold out and to ensure that all confirmed winners gain access to the event site, a ticket collection booth at Trafalgar Square will be open from midday (12.00) until 17.00 on Saturday, 15 August. If you do not receive your two tickets (wristbands) through the post before the event, please locate this booth on arrival to Trafalgar Square where you will be able to collect tickets. Please note that photographic identification and a copy of the notification email for the main applicant will be required at the collection booth. For security reasons, tickets will only be exchanged once the correct identification is provided.

Championships commence: 16.10
Championships close: 20.00

Further to filming we did with the BBC last week as part of a media day, more footage was captured today (11th of Aug) with UF’s Chima at Southbank, London. The piece was edited and aired swiftly on the same day and was broadcast a number of times on BBC1 highlighting the up and coming Barclaycard World Freerun Championships, which has already surpassed last year in terms of media interest. The 12th of Aug will see an article being published in the Independent newspaper and also listings in Time Out magazine.

A film crew from CNN World News will be interviewing World Freerun Association spokesman, Ez, in London on the 11th of August. He’ll be joined by members from the Urban Freeflow performance team who will be demonstrating a series of techniques and talking about Freerunning in the build up to the World Championships. Shortly afterwards they will set off to film with the BBC for the opening sequence of the live show that will air on the 15th of August.
